Social 10 - Globalization

In this course we will explore the historical events that led to our current state of globalization, as well as the effects of globalization on lands, cultures, human rights and quality of life. Students will explore the relationships among globalization, citizenship and identity.  There are four key questions we will focus on:

  • To what extent should globalization shape identity?
               - this would include a discussion of how living in a world where we interact with people and goods from
around the world impacts our own personal identity.
  • To what extent should people in Canada respond to the legacies of historical globalization?
                - this would include a discussion of how European exploration changed the world, and how we should

respond to those changes.
  • To what extent does globalization contribute to sustainable prosperity for all people?
                - this would include a discussion of how international trade can help and hurt at the same time (cheaper

goods at the expense of workers and the environment).
  • To what extent should I, as a citizen, respond to globalization?
                - this would include a discussion of what citizenship means and what responsibilities come with being a

global citizen.
